Energy Efficient Windows & Doors Purchased in 2015 Qualify for a Federal Tax Credit Extender

Qualifying products are eligible for a tax credit of 10% of the cost of the qualifying windows to a maximum of $200 per household and patio doors to a maximum of $500 per household for purchases made from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2016.

Note: If a taxpayer has already claimed a tax credit of $500 for purchases made in any previous year, they are ineligible for additional tax credits for any new purchases. The tax credit does not include installation costs.

Qualifying and Claiming The Tax Credit is Easy

To get in on the the attractive tax incentives:

  • Check whether you purchased qualifying windows or doors from Window World of Athens, and locate your sales receipt and the NFRC/ENERGY STAR label to be filed with your tax documents.
  • Make sure your energy-efficient windows or doors were installed AFTER January 1, 2011 in order to claim the credit on your 2015 tax return.
  • Claim the tax credit on your federal filing for the 2015 tax year. Download Form 5695 (Residential Energy Credits) here, as well as the associated Manufacturer’s Certificate.

A “qualifying” window or door is one that carries both a U-Factor equal to or less than 0.30 and a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) equal to or less than 0.30. You can find more information on energy ratings and qualifying products at the ENERGY STAR® website.
